According to local publication Motorsport Media and the Cape Argus, Cape Town’s Killarney Raceway is set to host a round of the World Rallycross Championship in 2017. WRX promoters are currently in Cape Town and it seems Killarney is in first place to join the 12 races already on the calendar. The circuit will likely use sections of Killarney’s Turn 2 and tar oval and head down to Turn 3 before returning to the oval via a partially dirt track that includes normal track aspects.
This series sees the likes of Sebastian Loeb, Petter Solberg and Ken ‘Hoonigan’ Block piloting 400kW all-wheel drive machines in a two-day event building up to a six car final. Should we see this happening which I believe is pretty much a done deal, expect to see the South African leg at Killarney towards the end of 2017.
