Overview
The Cayenne was first introduced in the Porsche’s line-up about a decade ago and is the only SUV on the market of focused sports cars. Although purists of the designer sports brand will argue that Porsche has diluted its image somewhat with the introduction of this SUV, they also admit that it is a best seller and bringing in cash to pay for the development of its other lines.
It is very much a family vehicle and one that is exceptionally practical that manages to incorporate all of the personality of the brand. Looks wise from the exterior – if you were to gift-wrap a smoother practical, modern vehicle image crossed with the rough lines of the 911’s curves, and you would make the Cayenne baby. Although it looks odd compared to other conventional SUVs, nevertheless it does attract attention in the supermarket car parking lot.
Exterior
Currently there are seven variants in the Cayenne range, including the basic model, powered by a 300- galloping horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine; the Cayenne Diesel launched in 2013, giving a 245- total power 3 liter V-6 turbo diesel engine; the Cayenne S, will give 400 full horsepower from a 4.8 liter V-8; the Cayenne S Hybrid, excellent for 380 galloping power from its match of electric powered motor and a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6; and the Cayenne Turbo, the speed master of the group, rated at having the galloping power of 500 horses from its dual-turbocharged 4.8-liter V-8. New for 2014 is the 550-hp Turbo S.
For the new Turbo S, it gets from zero to 60 miles in 4.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 176 mph; base Cayenne’s are quick, getting to 60 miles in 7.4 seconds run by sophisticated Tip Tronic S automatic transmission, or 7.1 seconds running with six-speed manual.The basic models are the only ones fitted with a 6-speed manual gearbox; when driving leave the shift to an 8 -speed Tip tronic automatic paired with manual control.
Interior
Needless to say that, within the model line-up, all have comfortable standardized seating, which is comfy and well supported for the back. In the sportier models, the drive can be a bit on the stiff side but if you install the Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management (PASM) air-suspension system it improves road handling while also engendering a superior ride quality.
Furthermore, each of the five variants does come in unique designs and set of features, along with a variety of trims, multifaceted customizations and optional upgrades.
The 2014 Cayenne costs from $50,000, but Turbo models goes up to as much $150k with numerous addons and upgrades, and the best Turbo S starts at $146,975.
