The Volvo XC90 was revealed a few weeks back and it was so popular that the first allocations were immediately sold out. Now we get to see the sport R-Design and this is a lot more interesting to me. Unfortunately there will be no mechanical upgrades (for now) which means it has the same engine range as the standard XC90. The range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid features a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder unit driving the front wheels and an 80 bhp electric motor driving the rear axle. The combined output is rated at 400 horses so now the R-Design actually suits the performance numbers. It gets a full aero bodykit that includes; modified front and rear bumpers, bigger wheels, slightly altered wheel arches, twin exhausts, silver roof rails and matte silver side mirrors. Inside the R-Design features new sports seats, steering wheel paddles, sporty steering wheel and sports pedals. If I was shopping for a new SUV and it had to be a Volvo, I would not think twice about opting for the R-Design.
