BMW will be updating the i8 within the next 12 months and will be receiving an upgraded hybrid powertrain which is currently being testing on prototypes around the world. Details are very much under wraps for the time being but sources are saying that the facelifted i8 will get a more powerful electric motor giving it a 10% boost in power to around 420 horses. The current i8 deals with the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds but something closer to 4 should be expected for the updated machine.
Not only are they looking for more performance, they are also hoping to extend the range of the car through a revised batter pack. Other rumors include the possibility of wireless charging thanks to technology by Qualcomm. The launch of the facelifted i8 will likely coincide with the introduction of the BMW i8 roadster which will be sometime in 2017.
