We were wondering when Jaguar would be getting a little ‘talking to’ with regards to their high-output supercharged engines and by the sounds of things, it has already happened because Jaguar Land Rover has just struck a deal with BMW to buy its latest generation of V8’s. If you do not know, the turbocharger is a lot more efficient than the supercharger because superchargers get their power from the crankshaft of the engine, increasing load and throwing fuel economy to the wayside. JLR will be using the German V8’s to power the high-end Jaguars and potent Range Rovers with output in the region of 600 horsepower. The current BMW 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 pushes out anything between 450 and 600 horsepower but this will soon be phased out by a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 which will likely be the unit making it’s way into JLR vehicles.
