As a Golf enthusiast, this is something to smile about. Introducing VW’s new race-spec Golf TCR. It has been developed by VW’s Motorsport division in cooperation with the sports department at SEAT and the concept car has been made in accordance with the TCR regulations which could mean we might see one or two of these hitting the circuit next year.
“The newly created TCR category provides a promising platform for customer racing – on a national and international level,” said VW Motorsport Director Jost Capito. “With exciting races, production-based technology and reasonable costs, it offers a new outlook for private racing teams.”
The Golf TCR is clearly based on the Golf R but a tuned version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four now pumps out 325 horses and 410 Nm of torque (296 hp and 380 Nm standard). Exterior wise the TCR is 400mm wider than the production car thanks to the beefy wheel arches and you also get some matching bumpers, vented hood and a serious roof wing. Since it is a race car, the interior was stripped and a full roll cage, racing steering wheel and a racing seat was fitted.
