In the motoring world, there are three big events you keep in the calendar. One of them is the New York Auto Show. It’s the last chance in the year for car manufacturers to unveil their future vehicles. Sure, it doesn’t have the same power as the Geneva Motor Show. It’s not as big as Detroit, but it’s still a firm fixture in the calendar. This year was no different with the likes of McLaren, Porsche and Jaguar saving the best for last!
It’s a chance to see what our favourite car manufacturers have been tinkering away at for the last twelve months. It’s a chance to see what will be on our roads in the coming year. And boy were we in for a treat when we turned up last week. Here is our quick roundup of the very best of the New York Auto Show.
McLaren 570S – McLaren have been busy pumping out one of the best new sports cars in the world. The McLaren P1 has been the talk of the motoring world as hybrid supercars take center stage. However, that’s not all McLaren have been working on. They’ve been keeping this one quiet, but it’s finally here. The 570S has clearly been introduced as a competitor for the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo. The 3.8 litre V8 will do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Essentially, they’ve put the reins on 650S and made it more accessible in the lower price range.
Honda Civic Coupe – The Honda Civic is an important car. In the hot hatchback market, the VW Golf GTi and the Ford Focus ST have ruled unchallenged for years. Only the Honda Civic Type R has ever provided competition. As a result, the impressive Civic is still one of the most popular cars on carbase.biz. This year the Type R is back to enormous fanfare. The Coupe unveiled in New York is a more beautiful, more powerful addition to the range. We love it.
Jaguar XF – There has been a lot of talk about the XF and we were so happy to finally see it unleashed. Jaguar have been trimming away at its weight thanks to a 75% aluminium chassis. They’ve kept the Jaguar 2.0 litre V8 engine we all know and love. Yet this lighter weight has unlocked more speed, more response and a more exciting drive. Look for this one hitting the roads later in the year.
Porsche Boxster Spyder – This might just be the hit of the show. The new Boxster will be the fastest one yet. Its focus is set squarely on the driving experience. There are no frills here. Just simple, passionate and precise engineering. The engine is faultless with a 3.8 litre driving Porsche’s fantastic new model.
Lexus RX – Lexus’ new SUV demanded to be seen at New York. It stood proudly with a fierce and ferocious new grill snarling at passers by. Despite its aggressive exterior, the car is a revelation in new safety technology. When it hits the market, it will be one of the best and safest family cars in the world.
Until next time!
