A recent report by Winding Road, McLaren’s entry-level sports coupe could be named the 500S. Up until now, I thought the car would be badged the P13 but this seems to have been dispelled. What we do still know is that the car is set to be a direct competitor to the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and of course the Porsche 911 Turbo. The pricing of the car will be in the $180 000 region which should put it in about the R2.9 million region once it gets to South Africa. It is still assumed that it will be powered by a detuned version of the brilliant 3.9-litre twin turbo V8 engine that will create around 500 hp and will take styling elements from both the 650S and 12C but will be ‘evolutionary’ according to the CEO, Mike Flewitt. Really looking forward to seeing the cars styling because we know the car will be a good car to drive.
